Idaho (MorichesDaily) – Authorities confirm woman’s 2-year-old son accidentally shot and killed her at Hayden, Idaho, Wal-Mart Tuesday morning.
A 29-year-old woman is dead after her 2-year-old son got a hold of a loaded handgun in her purse and accidentally shot her inside a Wal-Mart store in Hayden, the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office said.
The woman was shopping with four children, Lt. Stu Miller said. The 2-year-old was riding in a shopping cart and pulled the gun from her purse and shot her, he said. It’s not clear whether all four children are related to the victim.
The woman, whose identity was not released, had a concealed weapons permit.
Miller said the shooting was accidental and occurred in the Wal-Mart in Hayden, Idaho, a town about 40 miles northeast of Spokane, Washington.
The woman and the children were in the back of the store near the electronics area when the shooting occurred, authorities said.
“A very sad incident occurred at our store today involving the death of a female customer,” said a statement issued by Wal-Mart. “We are fully cooperating with the Kootenai County Sheriff’s deputies as they investigate this matter.”
The woman’s handgun was quickly secured after the 10:20 a.m. shooting, Miller said, and the store was evacuated and closed while deputies interviewed customers and employees and reviewed store surveillance video. The store will reopen at 6 a.m. Wednesday.
