Norwalk, CT (MorichesDaily) – Cranbury Elementary School in Norwalk was on lockdown as a precaution Wednesday morning after someone reported hearing gunshots nearby.

The shots were reported somewhere outside the immediate area of the Cranbury Elementary School, at 10 Knowalot Lane in Norwalk.

Norwalk Police Chief Thomas Kulhawik told reporters that officers were in the area and responded quickly to the call.

There was no confirmation that shots actually had been fired. But students at the school were being kept inside protectively while police investigated any incidents in the area.

Police are searching the area, but officials say they have not found anyone else that heard shots fired.

Officials say that everyone inside the school is fine and they will keep the school on lockdown until they have verified no shots were fired.

The school is near Cranbury Park, a 227-acre open area.
