SOUTH FARMINGDALE, NY (MorichesDaily) — Nassau County Police say a school bus driver was arrested for DWI while driving a bus with four kids aboard his bus in Farmingdale.
Michael Asseng, 47, of Deer Park, was driving a GMC Omnibus on Midwood Avenue when he crashed shortly before noon, Nassau police said.
According to officials Asseng was driving a bus for ACME Bus Corporation with four young children when he hit a parked car.
Police arrived at the scene and determined that Asseng was drunk and placed him under arrest.
After having difficulty breathing, Asseng was taken to an area hospital for treatment.
Asseng is facing four counts of aggravated DWI, and driving while ability impaired.
Asseng was charged under Leandra’s Law with four counts of aggravated driving while intoxicated and driving while ability impaired by drugs, officers said.
The arraignment had not been scheduled. Police said it would be conducted either in the hospital or at First District Court in Hempstead.
No injuries were reported.
