
Three armed men entered a home at 21 Leigh Street through an unlocked door at approximately 1:20 a.m., threatened the five residents and demanded cash.
HUNTINGTON, NY (MorichesDaily) — Suffolk County Police arrested five men who allegedly committed an armed home invasion in Huntington early Tuesday morning.
Police say that three armed men entered a home at 21 Leigh Street through an unlocked door at approximately 1:20 a.m.
The men threatened the five residents and demanded cash while two other suspects remained outside waiting in a 2001 Lincoln and acted as lookouts while the burglary look place.
All five men fled in the Lincoln and were stopped a short distance later on Deer Park Avenue in Dix Hills by police.
During the course of the investigation, police say that two handguns were recovered apparently used in the attack.
Police charged the following men with Burglary 1st Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd Degree:
• Jason Gwaltney, 25, of 46 St. Peters Drive, Brentwood
• Jaquese Jones, 18, of 105-4 Howells Road, Bay Shore
• Nouvelle Lucas, 17, of 96 Arlington St., Wyandanch
• Demetrius Edwards, 19, of 79 Levey Boulevard, Wyandanch
• Tahjiea Carpenter, 17, of 970 Park Ave., Huntington
Carpenter was also charged with four counts of Burglary 2nd Degree for previously burglarizing four other Huntington homes.
None of the residents were injured and the investigation is continuing.
All five men will be held overnight at the Second Precinct and are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on January 23.
There has been a rash of armed home invasions on Long Island in recent days.
Suffolk County Police say they arrested three Brentwood men Sunday night involved in a North Lindenhurst home invasion.
Police are also searching for the suspects in a home invasion on Townhouse Drive in Coram.
According to police, four men forced their way into this house at 9:30 p.m. last night while a woman and three children were home.
