Yaphank, N.Y. (MorichesDaily) — Police are investigating an automobile accident that killed a Longwood School District security guard in Yaphank.

Daniel Methven was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Impala northbound on Yaphank-Middle Island Road in Yaphank when the vehicle struck a telephone pole and came to rest in a wooded area.

Methven, 39 of Bohemia, was working for Longwood School District Security at the time of the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. The vehicle has been impounded for a safety check.

At the time of the accident there was thick fog blanketing the area but there is no word if that played a role in the accident.

The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact the Seventh Squad at 631-852-8752.

Horrible accident. I was there, the car cut the pole in half. There was no fog at the time. The curve on Yaphank middle island Rd was designed wrong by the county. The turn is to severe. This is the Second death same spot in less then two years. It was at the entrance to the state hunting grounds after Shannon Dr.
The town won't fix it. The county won't listen. How many people have to die??? The car was a Longwood security white sedan. Very sad when the municipality won't address the problem. I have seen cars flipped over at this same spot several times, including high school children on the way to school. Someone please help
