HEWLETT, NY (MorichesDaily) — George W. Hewlett High School in Nassau Co. is locked down due to report of a student with gun.

Police responded to the high school and a lockdown was in place as police investigate a report that someone was seen with a gun on the campus.

School officials say someone passed a note that said a student had a gun. They brought the student to the attendance office, and no gun was found.

The lockdown was lifted, and students are back in class.

Nassau County police confirmed the lockdown at George W. Hewlett High School on Everit Avenue in Hewlett before 11 a.m. Friday.

A spokeswoman for the Hewlett-Woodmere school district said Superintendent Joyce Bisso was in conference over the matter and unavailable for comment.

The spokeswoman said police are at the scene and all students and faculty are safe. She said she had no other details.
