Car Crashes Into 2 North Amityville Homes Leaving 1 Dead, Teen Injured

North Amityville, N.Y. (MorichesDaily) — A male driver was killed and his teenage passenger seriously injured Saturday night after the car they were riding in crashed into two homes in North Amityville, Suffolk County police said.

Roger Castro was driving his 1997 Pontiac sedan was traveling south on Great Neck Road shortly after 8:30 p.m. when it veered off the road, struck the corner of a house and then hit the outside of a home next door, police said.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and removed the car’s roof to extricate at least one of the occupants. Castro, 20, of North Amityville was pronounced dead at the scene.

Both homes were damaged and one of the residents in the house was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip for minor injuries.

The passenger, Edwin Cruz, 15, of the same address as the driver, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital where he is listed in serious condition.

A building inspector from the Town of Babylon is responding to the scene to inspect both houses.

The investigation is continuing.
