In this photo released by NBC, “Today” show co-host Matt Lauer congratulates Ann Curry on her first day at the anchor desk on the “Today” show, Thursday, June 9, 2011, in New York. Thursday was Ann’s first day replacing Meredith Vieira as co-anchor of the show.

  • Curry’s attorney is exploring her exit options and will argue that her demotion from Today in April was a breach of contract
  • If she quits without NBC’s approval, she is banned from taking another news job for two years
  • Incoming CNN boss Jeff Zucker wants to hire Curry to help him rejuvenate the fledgling news station

New York (MorichesDaily) – Ann Curry allegedly asked the Today show to let her out of her contract so she can make the move as a high-profile journalist at CNN, replacing Anderson Cooper in the coveted 8pm time slot.

NBC just won’t give Ann Curry a break it seems after first firing her as “Today Show” co-anchor with Matt Lauer in the spring of 2012, to now refusing to let her out of her contract, though Ann Curry begs NBC to release her.

Curry is reportedly earmarked for Anderson Cooper’s coveted 8pm slot at the rival TV station by her former Today show boss, Jeff Zucker, who will take over as president of CNN Worldwide in February.

A source recently told The New York Post that Cooper could transition to a ‘Christiane Amanpour role’ as a globetrotting correspondent, if Curry bumped him from his spot.

If she quits without the green light from NBC, a clause in her contract bans her from working for any other news outlet.

‘Ann wants out of her contract, big time,’ a source close to the situation told RadarOnline. ‘She has formally asked her attorney to explore exit options from the network.’

Still Ann Curry’s lawyer is not giving up yet, arguing the manner in which she was fired from the “Today Show” in was contrary to her contract terms by NBC.

‘Ann’s lawyer feels that there is a very strong case to be made that NBC has breached terms of the deal because Curry was demoted from Today…furthermore, Ann has basically been sequestered from appearing on the network. Yes, she has been doing some work that has been assigned to her, but it hasn’t been steady.’

But the NBC bosses are unwilling to release Curry without a fight.

‘If Ann were to just quit, there is a non-compete clause, which would prohibit her from working for another news outlet for two years,’ the insider said.

Matt Lauer is reportedly still getting flack from fans over Ann Curry’s “Today Show” ouster but still NBC refuses to let Ann out of her contract.

What do you think? Should NBC let Ann go?

Ann's tweet about 26 Acts sparked a national movement, in essence, putting NBC above other news programs. Show a little class NBC, like Ann, and let her move on to a network that wants her. Trust me, if you don't, this is only the tip of the backlash your news organization will suffer.

Just goes to show what happens to people who work for NBC. I am amazed how over the years NBC treats its employees and still has people willing to work for them. They got CBS, ABC, Fox network and cable news, CNN to choose from. I am not a Conan fan and like Leno way more however look how they treated him! Letterman another example. Now it is Ann Curry.

This should be a huge wake up call for anybody looking at a job at NBC. Their station is a joke, news a mystery why even anybody watches it. ABC and network Fox TV news is much better.

California law does not allow no compete clauses which SHOULD be illegal everywhere.
Move to los angeles and broadcast from there!

Give Anne the break she deserves… NBC chose Savannah G over Anne. Let her move on with her career since NBC doesn't appreciate her at this point!

I have watched the Today show for over 25 years. I don’t think what you did to Ann Curry was right. I enjoyed watching her on the Today show and was disappointed in how you all fired her. You don’t want her then let her go it only makes NBC look bad.

Contract is a process which is very common in business. Before going for a contract several points are taken into consideration. In business sector there is a person who is taking all responsibility. In a short form we can call him/her a leader. A leader is responsible to achieve the organizational goal. really this is a good job and congratulation.
