Two Men Arrested for Breaking into a Vehicle in Gateway Plaza Parking Lot

Two Best Buy Geek Squad employees caught the thieves

Patchogue, NY (MorichesDaily) — Suffolk County Police arrested two men caught breaking into a vehicle in the Gateway Plaza parking lot in Patchogue.

Two Geek Squad employees were in the Gateway Plaza parking lot, located at 499 Sunrise Highway North Service Road, when they observed a suspicious man look into a Ford Explorer, open the door and remove an item from a parked automobile around 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon.

The employees, who work at the Best Buy located in the Gateway Shopping Center, saw the driver of a Dodge Stratus pick up the suspect, who put the stolen item into the trunk of the vehicle.

The two drove away and parked elsewhere and began walking throughout the crowded parking lot that had heavy car traffic and holiday shoppers.

Based on a description provided by the employees, Fifth Precinct Police Officer Michael Ferrara located the man who broke into the Ford, Michael Diorio.

Officers Lauren Ruggiero and David Kolesar located the driver of the Stratus, Justin Skura, who was walking around the parking lot when he was located.

The stolen item, a GPS, was found in Skura’s Stratus which Officer Bryan Lawrence located in the parking lot.

Diorio, 23, of Lollipop Lane, Medford, was charged with Petit Larceny and Criminal Possession of a Hypodermic Needle.

Skura, 22, of Wisteria Circle, Bellport, was charged with Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 5th degree.

Both men are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.
