[Update] Dec. 19, 2012 Bay Shore, NY (MorichesDaily) — Suffolk County Police have arrested a Bay Shore teenager for making a ‘terroristic threat’ after he posted a threat online in the name of a schoolmate against his middle school.
According to the information provided in the report, more arrests may be announced as police continue the investigation.
A 14-year-old Bay Shore boy created a Facebook page using the name of a female classmate on which he posted a threat that involved committing a shooting at the school on December 19.
An investigation by Third Squad detectives led to the source of the Facebook page. The teen was charged with Making a terroristic threat, a Class D Felony.
He was released to his mother and will appear in Family Court on January 2, 2013.
The school notified parents of the incident via an automated telephone messaging system.
The district also posted a message at its website, bayshoreschools.org. The post said the threat was reported by a middle school parent and that Third Precinct police responded quickly.
“Please rest assured that the safety and security of our students and staff is the number one priority of the Bay Shore School District,” the post said. “We will update you as more information becomes available.”
In the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy there have been threats and school lock-downs reported across the country.
In Ohio, a high school student posted on Facebook that he could “do better” than the Newtown shooting that killed 26 people, while in LA, another person threatened to kill more elementary students.
The Suffolk County Police Department says that it takes all threats seriously and they will conduct a full investigation.
